This 240 square foot living-dining room in Carter Road, Bandra was designed for a client in his mid-seventies — someone with a taste for jazz, opera, and furniture built to be lived with for decades, not just looked at.

The room does more work than its size suggests: it holds a full seating arrangement in pure leather, a four-seater glass dining table, and a sideboard, without ever feeling crowded. Rosewood veneer runs through the joinery, paired with real Burmese teak for the coffee table, sideboard and the display unit, and the floor is pure marble throughout. Day-night blinds control the light along the window wall, letting him layer brightness through the day and dim it down for the evenings he spends reading or playing bridge.

Lighting was treated in layers rather than as an afterthought — cove lighting along the ceiling perimeter, recessed downlights, and a white glass pendant over the dining table, all built to work together depending on the hour and the mood.

An integrated Bose surround sound system runs through the living-dining room, set up for a client who listens to music seriously. Two framed opera posters sit in lit wall niches by the dining table — a quiet nod to what he actually loves.
